The month started out glorious, with sunny days in the 50s and even 60 one day. I managed to get the entire front cleaned up….all leaves, everything cut back except roses and salvias. Then the snow started, six days of it. Over 14″ total with more on the way this afternoon. Temps dropping to teens and single digits. But should start warming up later this weekend, and I might be able to get out, if the snow melts, by next week.
Before the snow, lots of things were up or budding out….Poppies, Salvias, Garden Phlox, Cranesbill, Day Lilies, Nigella…with buds on the Mock Orange, Lilacs and Honeyberries. Tulips, Daffodils and Grape Hyacinths all up a good ways. No sign of big Hyacinths yet. Irises also putting on good growth. Fortunately, no fruit trees had started budding, though I am worried about the figs now.
Lots of seedlings started indoors: Foxglove, Delphinium, Lupine, Sweet Peas, Pansies, Eucalyptus, Hollyhocks, Salvia, Yarrow, Snap Dragons, Penstemon, Lobelia, Lisianthus, Forget-Me-Nots. Plus eggplant, cauliflower, Welsh onions, kale, celery, peppers, parsley, dill, fennel, thyme, savory. Outside sown Poppies, Larkspur & Heliotrope. Will sow some more on this snow once it melts a tad.
